Ping Golf Clubs

Karsten Solheim created his first Ping putter in 1958, they were the putters with the distinctive sound. Ping Putters set the standard for the putters of today. Older Ping models included The Anser, Pal, Zing, Kushin and Cushin then made way for the isopur series along with new metals and inserts. In irons and woods, Ping has produced the Ping Eye, Eye2, ISI, I3 and TiSI, and the Zing models. Then came the Rapture Series, G5 Drivers, i3 Irons with a tuning port, G2, G5 Irons, i10 Irons, S58 Irons and S59 Irons.

Ping golf equipment is rated excellent for a number of reasons. First, the golf clubs are well constructed. Secondly, Ping golf clubs are reasonably priced between $50 and $250, allowing golf enthusiasts to complete their set inexpensively.

Why are Ping Golf Clubs so Special?

Karsten Solheim started Ping Golf Equipment while designing a better putter. The patented design based upon the “Heel-Toe” weighting is coveted by many golfing enthusiasts. The perimeter weighting of the golf club increases the moment of inertia. When the club is not struck squarely, the club is more forgiving.

Investment casting is present in K Series Irons. The lost wax process has been preferred by golfers for years. The Cushin Selective Filtering Insert is a patented invention that screens out the unwanted frequencies to keep the golfer from feeling excess vibration on each shot. This can affect the muscle, connective tissue and bone.

What Do I Need to Begin Playing Golf?

Typically, a beginning or avid golfer will need the four types of clubs in their set: Woods, irons, wedges and a putter. More advanced golfers may also have hybrid clubs present in their set. Hybrids are a cross between irons and woods. Hybrids are recommended for those people that have trouble making shots with their long irons. Fourteen clubs are allowed in your bag in any combination to make the shots effectively.

For example, a golfer may carry a driver, a four-wood, a pitching wedge, a gap wedge, a lob wedge, a sand wedge, three through nine-irons and a putter. A beginner may only have a driver, a three-wood, a five-wood, three through nine-irons, a pitching wedge and a putter. Golfers may also need golf balls, tees, a bag, golfing shoes and other appropriate golfing apparel.

Some golf courses have regulations about the attire on the golf course. Some courses will allow a button up “Izod-type” shirt with Khakis or other golf-specific apparel. A hat may also be desirable to block the sun.

Ping Woods

A beginner may purchase a set that contains two woods, which are typically a three-wood and a five-wood.

Ping produces woods golfers prefer because of the internal weight pad at the bottom of the head. The half-moon alignment aid is both useful and visually appealing. Ping woods are characterized by a balance of flexibility and stiffness to achieve distance and accuracy. The most popular Ping woods are the K15 and the G15.

The K15 and the G15 are both constructed with 17-4 stainless steel. The K15 offers maximum forgiveness, while the G15 offers extreme forgiveness. They both possess a high trajectory and are recommended for the fairways or light to rough terrain. The face height for both is shallow and is meant for superior to moderate game improvement. The K15 club offers medium spin, while the G15 club offers the player low to medium spin.

The Rapture Series, in general, is known for the density and shape of sole plate to provide perfect positioning of the center of gravity for longer flying shots and higher launching. The wider sole and shallow face provides maximum stability, forgiveness, higher trajectory and increased ball speed for achieving greater distance.

Sizing charts are usually based upon your ability level: Low-handicap golfer, mid-handicap golfer and high-handicap golfer. Purchase woods based on these specifications:

Low Handicap Golfer. This golfer has a single digit handicap, which means that he or she is typically 10 strokes over par. For this type of golfer, a 3-wood is most often recommended.

Mid Handicap Golfer. This golfer typically averages one over par on each hole. This is usually called a “bogey golfer” and has an 11 to 20 handicap range. This type of golfer will need a 3-wood and a 5-wood. Some experts may even suggest adding a 7-wood or 9-wood. These fairway woods will allow the golfer better control and consistency for long irons.

High Handicap Golfer. The high handicapper golfer usually shoots close to or over 100. Golfers in this category are recommended to have a 3-wood for “off-the-tee” and a 7-wood and 9-wood. These golfers are not recommended to have a driver; however, more advanced golfers should.

Ping Irons

Golfers typically have access to eight irons that include three through nine-irons and a pitching wedge. Ping introduced several successful series of irons. The Ping Rapture series and the Ping S59 irons are both superior construction for the price range. With a superior foundation, the irons offer a maximum amount of forgiveness on the swing and are visually appealing.

The S56 Iron appeals to players that have a lower handicap and value shot control. The S56 Iron body is constructed of steel with variable tungsten toe weighting positions. This positions the center of gravity for higher launching trajectories that are more controlled. The patent-pending Stabilizing Bar Technology optimizes the center of gravity. Grooves and a machined face ensure consistent performance.

The G15 Iron provides the high launching, maximum forgiveness that golfers covet. Stronger lofts produce longer shots without sacrificing a higher trajectory. The G15 Iron also features a stainless steel iron cavity with a Custom Tuning Port (CTP) to increase the moment of inertia and weighting.

Ping irons offer removable titanium inserts of varying thicknesses to improve launch velocity. Irons may be customized to improve the golfers game. The S59 irons are excellent for beginners and high handicap golfers. Ping is one of the few companies that cater to this golfing group.

Low Handicap Golfer. Low handicap golfers will benefit from the lower irons. The three or four-iron may be useful, if the golfer can control the club and the shot.

Mid Handicap Golfer.Experts recommend a three through nine-iron. The two-iron may not render a consistent game.

High Handicap Golfer.Experts do not have specific recommendations, but the three through nine-irons are suggested for beginners.

Ping Wedges

Ping wedges are known for their unique design and superiority to its competitors. Tour W wedges possess a more compact head size, aggressive grooves and milled faces. Tour W wedges are also well-balanced with the maximum amount of forgiveness.

The Tour S wedges possess a machined-face and conforming grooves to achieve spin in various conditions. The Custom Tuning Port angles increase the perimeter weighting for forgiveness. A reshaped Tour S wedge sole allows the golfer more shot versatility.

Low Handicap Golfer. A minimum of three wedges are recommended for all potential shots: a sand wedge, pitching wedge and a lob wedge. The wedges should have a four-degree difference between each one.

Mid Handicap Golfer.Three wedges are recommended: Sand wedge, a pitching wedge and a lob wedge or approach wedge.

High Handicap Golfer. Three wedges are recommended: Sand wedge, a pitching wedge and a lob wedge or approach wedge.

Ping Putters

Putters are usually sold separately, and selection is considered a personal preference. Most Ping putters are built with quality craftsmanship and good heel-toe balance.

The Ping Karsten 1959 Anser 2 stainless steel face putter provides better distance control and builds confidence in the golfer’s stroke. The Karsten Anser 2 is major-winning quality and is designed to make more putts.

The popular Craz-E is face-balanced to improve the golfer’s put. This Craz-E putter also builds confidence and features a non-glare satin finish.

Golf Balls

Ping does not make golf balls, but they are necessary for the game. Keep in mind that higher handicap golfers will need a ball with a harder cover to achieve a lower spin rate with the irons and drivers. For more control and spin, select a ball designed for low handicap golfers. The softer a golf ball feels, the lower the compression rating will be. Players with a lower swing speed may want to choose a ball with a lower compression rating. This will allow the golfer to take advantage of the spring affect. Also, be cognizant of the 9-iron spin when selecting a ball. This describes the backward rotation of the golf ball during its flight trajectory. Most golfers consider the 9-iron spin when using short irons and wedges.

Ping Golf Equipment and Accessories

Ping offers a number of accessories that golfers find useful during the game. On their official website, golfers may find hats, gloves, umbrellas, golf bags, den caddies and golf shirts all complete with the Ping logo. Hats come in standard adjustable or customized fit format. Gloves provide improved grip and reduced slippage. Shoe sacks are sold for shoe transport and protection. Backpacks carry sunglasses, water, laptops, cell phones or any other personal needs while golfing. The den caddy is designed to hold up to 300 golf balls in addition to the golfer's clubs. Golf bags are also available for convenience. Golf shirts are available in nearly every color imaginable. Ping makes every effort to address all aspects of the golfer’s game and offer a product as a solution.
